Letter to Narendra Modi about horrible cow torture incident

Honorable Prime Minister of India
Shri Narendra Modi

Yesterday in the district of Birbhum in West Bengal, my children and I had to witness a horrible scene of public cow torture. It took place on the State Highway near of the village of the president of India, Shri Pranab Mukherji. We were travelling in a bus with over 60 Krishna devotees from many different countries and everyone was in shock. My children were crying for a long time after witnessing the torture. I have raised my children as vegetarians and with Hindu Vaisnava Philosophy. This is their first trip to India and they could not believe this could be happening in the country where Krsna protects the cows.

As you will notice in the attached pictures, the guilty were loading about 20 middle size cows on the back of one "Tata Chotta Hatti" truck. They were piled on top of each other and, so as to fit more cows in, their necks were folded towards their backs and tied with absolutely no space to move. They mobilized the cows by pulling them by their tails and lifting them up by their ears while walking on the lower level of already tied and stacked cows.

Please stop this horrible torturing of cows in India. We know that animals are tortured around the world but even in European countries where there is no culture of cow protection, such treatment would lead to a legal case against the culprits.

I am very sorry to disturb you with this unhappy news because you are doing such an important job of governing India, but I promised my crying children that we would contact the Prime Minister and send him this information so he can do something to better protect the cows.

Thank you.

Namaste,
Saranagati, Kunjabihari (age 14), Saraswati (age 11) and Mirabai (age 6)
