VYASA-PUJA OF SRILA BHAKTI ABHAY NARAYAN MAHARAJA
by Swami B.A. Harijan
Letters from Godbrothers:

Dear Srila Narayan Maharaj,
On this your 50th birthday I am reminiscing about our sweet days together in Stockholm. You were a real brahmacary friend. We always felt connected even up to the time I received sannyas from Srila Bhakti Rakshaka Sridhara Maharaj. How much nectar you and Harijan Maharaj received taking the same danda only six months later.

We were always connected by the will of Krishna. You prepared me for the lectures I gave in communist Hungary. I was the one who had to go, but your heart was there too. You always preached to everyone. Wherever you went in the world, people loved you. That is special sakti. Please pray for me to be always attached to the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Sridhara Maharaj. These lotus feet are my only hope for the sweet shelter in this empty world. Remembering my dear brothers such as yourself also gives me hope. I am trying to serve your children. They are very loveable. Another service for a small soul like myself. By your sweet desire let it become a success.
Let the glories of Sri Sri Radha Gopi Ballabha be spread all over the world. This is my humble wish.

Your servant, Bhakti Alok Paramadvaiti Swami

I have received your request to write something about your beloved Guru Maharaja, Srila Bhakti Abhay Narayana Maharaja. I am always very saddened to remember that your Guru Maharaja left us so early. We all needed his association so much more to make advancement in Krsna consciousness. I can say with full conviction that your Guru Maharaja was a most wonderful person, a personality that everyone loved very dearly, he was a great Vaishnava, he was very dear to Krsna, and because of his preaching efforts now many thousands of souls are chanting Hare Krsna and engaging in Krsna's service.

I have attached a photo of your Guru Maharaja taken on the occasion of visiting the bhajan kutir of Srila Sanatana Goswami. This was taken on the last time when your Guru Maharaja visited Vrindavana and we relished his divine association.

You have our sincerest and best wishes for all success in life and may your beloved Guru Maharaja bless you all on the occasion of his 50th Vyasa-puja anniversary.

Hoping this meets you well.

Sri Hari-jana-kinkara,
Swami BG Narasingha

Dear Devotees,
Hare Krsna.

All glories to Sri Guru and Gauranga.
All glories to our divine preceptors.
All glories to Srila Bhakti Abhay Narayana Maharaja.

Thank you for the opportunity to write about your dear Guru Maharaja, Srila Bhakti Abhay Narayana Maharaja, who we always remember with the greatest affection. Just prior to his sudden departure, a sad occasion for us all, your Guru Maharaja spent some happy days with us in our ashrama in Vrndavana where we had the opportunity for long talks of Hari-katha. We consider ourselves fortunate to have had his association and simultaneously unfortunate to be now without that association.

Perhaps the characteristic which stands out the most is your Guru Maharaja’s very affectionate relationship with the devotees. He was always so warm and enthusiastic, a very inspiring example. It seemed that his enthusiasm for loving exchanges with devotees and his enthusiasm for sharing Krsna consiousness with non devotees knew no boundaries.

We were always amazed and enthralled by Maharaja’s hair-raising preaching tales in the then all communist countries. The bravery and determination of your Guru Maharaja in pushing on the preaching in forbidden countries against great odds amazed us time and again. Taking many high risks he delivered Krsna consciousness to many conditioned souls who were very happy to receive this mercy. From avoiding police roadblocks, to smuggling forbidden Bhagavad Gitas into certain countries and preaching for long periods of time under constant threat of heavy punishment, your Guru Maharaja enthusiastically took Mahaprabhu’s instructions to preach “anywhere and everywhere to everyone” to heart. When your Guru Maharaja toured myself and Tripurari Maharaja through his preaching areas we saw firsthand the oppression and fear that gripped the people and were almost arrested ourselves for taking pictures of a building in Romania. Only your Guru Maharaja’s quick thinking convinced the police that we were not spies but only goofy tourists, thus letting us go. Thus we realized first hand the harsh reality that your Guru Maharaja had to contend with in his preaching activities.

We were so happy with the wonderful hospitality afforded us on our tour by Srila Bhakti Abhay Narayana Maharaja and his followers (all of you) and continue to hold only the fondest memories of this journey and your Guru Maharaja.

Please accept our heartfelt best wishes for a Krsna conscious future and may the blessings of all our acaryas, particularly your beloved Gurudeva, shine upon you.

I hope this meets you well,
Swami B B Visnu

We have attached a copy of the article “Transcending the Iron Curtain” which appeared in the “Clarion Call” Magazine as a result of our tour.
