BLESS US TO SERVE VRINDAVAN
by Jagannath Poddar / Friends of Vrindavan
Vrindavan is a very important place for Hindus and Vaishnavas in particular. Vrindavan needs and urgent attention by the devotees of Lord Krishna as the physical Vrindavan’s condition is deteriorating each day.

Being the Rasasthali of Lord Krishna it is a world famous religious town and pride of Vaishnavas, Vrindavan attracts hundreds of thousand of pilgrims every year. It is getting dirtier each day due to this big pressure on local resources. Vrindavan Municipality has its own limitation for not having sufficient equipment for the street cleaning and garbage collection. We have been helping the municipality by taking responsibility to clean some parts of the town, constructing garbage ramps, organizing workshop for the capacity building of the municipal staff and adopting the sanitation service of many areas with the help of the community. We inspired two other organizations to come forward to help the Vrindavan cleaning system. We are in process to have a streamlined mechanism of collecting the wastes and disposing it off.  We are in process to ban the plastic from the town by making it a community movement. The ancient texts have abundant reference of the natural beauty and even the name means a forest of Vrinda tulsi. Things are just opposite than the ancient texts.

We introduce “Friends of Vrindavan” (FoV) and its activities to you. FoV is a non profitable, charitable service based ecological organization dedicated to restore Vrindavan’s ancient natural glory. FoV U.K. had been supporting different projects in Vrindavan through different organizations, FoV in India launched its operations on the 6th of April 1997 by beginning the cleaning service around the famous “Banke Bihari Temple”.  Since then we have focused in street cleaning, municipal garbage management, tree plantation, sacred kund conservation, bio-medical waste disposal and other environmental and conservation projects. We are well known in the town and recognized by the municipality and the district administration.

Ecological changes have accelerated very recently. The process of deforestation has rapidly taken place. Many of the sacred pools such as Brahma kunda and Govinda kunda are used for dumping garbage. The Yamuna River has become highly polluted by the dumping of raw sewage. Recycling, pollution controls and environmental ordinances exist, or are ignored. The condition of the environment has been steadily deteriorating over the last 30 years.

We are helping the municipality enormously with our equipments i.e tractor trolleys, dumper, garbage loader, by constructing garbage ramps and  with a team of thirty sweepers. Our 80% expenses are covered with self sustainable projects. We need very little support from outside. We are a transparent / accountable and  genuine organization whom you can fully trust. We have Friends of Vrindavan registered in U.S.A. and in U.K., where donations are Income tax exempted. We urge to you to support our mission by donating, giving contacts, spreading our messages etc. If you are interested please write to us so that we may send you more information and photo attachments.

May we request your kind self to help us to sort out the problems of the physical Vrindavan? We regret if we have disturbed you by sending this mail. I know that you will definitely send a reply, as it is your concern as well.

With Dandavat & Pranams
Yours in service
