Samsara’s Refugees

by Adhiyajna das

Sinister Samsara’s wheel rotates ceaselessly
as do the souls take countless births needlessly
no escape was in sight till you showed us the gate
Srila Prabhupada, to you we fall prostrate

We were refugees, no longer able to tolerate material strife
You were our refuge, you gave us new life
we were lost, confused about our existence
Srila Prabhupada, you taught us transcendence

Kali’s gifts have plunged the world asunder
all fruitless, electricity fossil fuels and gunpowder
none of them have ever produced even a single drop of bliss
Srila Prabhupada, you gave us Matchless Gifts

You taught us this body is but an aparadha apparatus
hopelessly dominated by sattva, rajas and tamas
to act as a soul you must first learn to be Krishna’s dasa
Srila Prabhupada, you led us to the Abode of all rasa

God is not a void, bright light or impersonal energy
but He is perfectly the Divine Supreme Personality
this exciting truth enthralled us with rapture
Srila Prabhupada, You are, His Servant Pure

You kept the truth simple avoiding flowery language
not seeking personal adoration, just to save us the anguish
of chasing bhava prematurely, another attempt to enjoy
Srila Prabhupada, you saved us from Maya’s subtle ploy

Now there are some who claim they have a higher truth
painful to hear the bragging of the uncouth
who have failed to understand the process of surrender
Srila Prabhupada, help us always your instructions to remember

The shortest distance between two points, that’s Vyasa
The purest representative of Vyasadeva, that’s You, siddha prakhasa
the most insignificant disciple of Your Divine Grace, that’s me
Srila Prabhupada, I’m still begging for Your mercy
