Vishva Vaishnava Raj Sabha decided to ban the use of plastic

Dear respected Vaishnavas,

After carefully considering all the dangerous components of plastic cups and polyethylene bags that have been inundating the holy places, the members of the Vishva Vaishnava Raj Sabha (in the 2012 meeting hosted by Gopananda Bon Maharaj in Bon Maharaj‘s Bhajan Kutir and in the presence of the new elected co-vice president Srila Bhaktivedanta Paryatok Maharaj) decided to completely abandon the usage of plastic cups, plates and polyethylene bags.

The assembled devotees pledged to not purchase any new plastic bags, with the exception of some old stock which may be used until it is finished. The WVA-VVRS recognizes that this ban will be treated as a recommendation. But it should be noted that the government will publish a similar ban for the entire Braj Mandal area. The usage of plastic will be considered to cause Dham-aparadha and serious health problems for humans and animals in the Dham.

We request all concernced devotees to be so kind and convey this message of the Vishva Vaishnava Raj Sabha, which was agreed unanimously by all the attendees. A message in this regard should be published and posted in every branch of the Gaudiya Math and every single member should be made aware of the dangers of using plastic. Although paper cups or clay cups are a little more expensive, this should not become an excuse for committing Dham-aparadh.

The WVA-VVRS also requests other missions and institutions to abandon the use of plastic as well.
